As the popularity of alternative-lifestyle choice veganism increases across Europe, officials in Switzerland have expressed concerns about the health implications for children who have the unusual diet forced on them by idealistic parents.
In the statement, Swiss officials said: Vegan food is not recommended for young children. It can cause serious harm. The lack of vitamin B12, which is seriously deficient in Vegan diets is the main cause of the interjection by federal health officials, who have warned denying children access to animal-derived food at an early age can cause health problems.

For me, there is no way I'd give up meat. We evolved with teeth to use them. I know quite a few people who've been vegetarian for decades, and they're healthy into their 60s and 70s.
It isn't easy for the ones who do it correctly. There are plenty of protein sources, sure, but maintaining that food balance seems to take effort for them.
I think food balance is oversold. Your body is quite capable of drawing what if needs, and when it needs it. The only thing you have to do is ensure you are eating from a wide variety of food sources.
“Why would a dash offend anybody?”
Because it comes across as self righteousness as the Pharisees who proclaimed their prayers loudly on the corner
Hey, where are the comments calling on the Swiss government to stay out of the lives of the people? -crickets-
Guess what. Everyone here who failed to point out that "Swiss Officials" should shut the hell up, have no right to complain about Moochelle and her school lunch buttinskyism ever again.
I agree. It is offensive.
The simple fact is this.
Humans, at least modern day humans, have a digestive system that is most closely related to...
dogs.
A heavily acidic stomach, a relatively short intestine (so that waste products don’t build up), you name it, we are omnivore/carnivore but mostly carnivore.
If you tried to get yur needed nutrition just from vegetables, you would be like a horse or a cow or a sheep, eating from sunup till sundown.
Not to mention Peter's revelation in the NT where he sees all sorts of "forbidden" animals and God tells him, "Kill Peter. Eat!"
If He didn't want us to eat meat, He would have given us the teethe or the systems we have.
I knew a girl who was a marathon runner. She ate very well, she ate only white meats (chicken, pork, fishing, etc). She switch to vegetarian, without even fish. Her run times went drastically down. Then she switched to veganism, and she can barely finish ten miles, and she complains of pain in many different joints of her body. She stopped this nonsense and went back to her originally diet. She is running better, but not at the level she was, but it has been less than a year.
there is beer vegans can consume.
I think the issue is not whether there is protein in some vegetables, but rather is there a good balance of essential amino acids in that plant protein.
How did our ancestors manage to get by without nutritional scientists? :)
Does you need to read a textbook before your body knows how to draw the necessary nutrients, if you are eating from a wide variety of foods?
The real problem in this area is that modern society has narrowed its sources of food. I have read that most people eat from less than a dozen of different kinds of foods in their daily diet. Our ancestors, even up until the early 1900’s ate from a wider range of foods.
It’s because we eat too few foods that we are stuck trying to ensure we are eating something that will feed us. Our ancestors never thought about it.
There was a study, some years ago, on a religious group from India who were strict vegans, and whose immigrants to England were showing serious nutritional deficiencies, while those who stayed in India did not.
Turned out that there were enough insects in the wheat flour, in India, to prevent deficiency disease.

” I wont bother with reading any information provided by any government website”
Props to you. I find it ridiculous that so many people find word from the government to be the be all and end all as if there could not possibly be any error or bias from that ultimate source of truth and wisdom.
Shiitake mushrooms are a source of B12 and trace minerals. Still, a vegan diet is asking for trouble.
I've been a vegan since I signed up at FR.
Liberals would see a correlation there.
The article was referring to children, and I should have specified that the study I spoke of was in young children, ages 6 and below. The brain continues to develop until about age 25, and is especially susceptible to damage during that time. Inadequate nutrition, chemicals (e.g. marijuana), and infection can all permanently impact IQ and behavior.
The mature brain is not as susceptible to these insults. However, I would not be surprised if some of these things caused damage in the mature brain, as well.
No, you are not alone.
I suspect that vegetarianism/veganism has a profound effect on cognition. I cringe whenever I read about parents raising their kids on those restrictive diets.
If you are eating one of those restrictive diets and popping handfuls of "supplements" because it makes you healthy--you need to seriously reconsider your diet. People who eat properly do not need supplements, and no one needs herbal supplements.
In the evangelical segment these days, we have gone to the extreme of treating God like some Santa Claus figure we can go and ask for goodies, or we act like God is our equal and a buddy we can share stupid jokes and casually goof around with. Between popular christian culture and pastors who want to promote coolness, this is attitude is spread.
God is a fearsome Judge- even with His mercy and kindness.
Amen.
