So, if Poland put troops in Ukraine and Russia ran them out or otherwise fired on them, would that invoke Article V of the NATO charter?
The problem with Russia is...the Polish/Ukranian/Lithuanian tri-powers aren’t going to defeat Russia even with Nato air support. I’m not pro-Russian by any means, but I sincerely hope this is all posturing over oil/natural gas sales. I mean, do we really want to fight Russia on their turf?
Wouldn’t that be kinda like rolling into Lincoln, Nebraska with your #1 rated college football passing attack and playing the Cornhuskers on a cold windswept day?
Might work...might not.
The United States just finished a military exercise in Ukraine.
That would depend on whether you believe Ukraine is Russia’s “backyard.” Seriously . . . think about what you just wrote. Under what circumstance would Russia engaging in military action on the sovereign territory of another nation be justified?
Sorry, the United States just started their exercise in Ukraine, not “finished” as I said.
“Donetsk (Ukraine) (AFP) - US-led military exercises involving 15 countries were set to begin in Ukraine Monday, as fighting rumbles on in the restive east between government forces and pro-Russian rebels in violation of a ceasefire.”
No— just as if a US Army unit were fired on in Korea. If the Russians then attacked Poland itself, yes.
