Survey: Most Americans Can’t Name All Three Branches of Government

Only 36% of Americans could name all three branches of the federal government, while 35% “could not name a single one”.

In addition, over half of Americans don’t know which parties control the House and Senate, and only 27% know that Congress can override a presidential veto with a two-thirds vote. In addition, 21% of Americans think that a 5-4 Supreme Court decision can be reconsidered by Congress, which is actually not true.

Interestingly, 54% of Americans would oppose a law that allowed the federal government to bar the media from reporting on national security issues without government approval.

According to the Common Core Standards, the three branches of government are readin, writin, and rithmetic.

Readin is the White House. Whatever the White House says, we read.

Writin is the Senators and Congresses. They write the bills and laws and stuff.

Rithmetic is Judges, Lawyers, cops, the IRS, Foodstamps, and jail. You have to do a bunch of rithmetic to figure outs your fines, see how much of your foodstamp money you can barter with for drugs, and how much a bail bondsman is gonna cost you.

It’s all pretty simple.

I would bet a sizable percentage couldn’t name one. I would bet further a very large pct. of Dem voters cannot name their congressman(woman), senators, governor, their state capital, or the states that border their state.
