First Cases Of Enterovirus Hit Calif. In Ventura, San Diego Counties

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — The California Department of Health Thursday confirmed the first cases of enterovirus in the state.

The cases were found in one patient in Ventura County and three children in San Diego County. More cases are anticipated in the coming weeks.

Enterovirus causes respiratory illness and likely spreads when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or touches contaminated surfaces.

Symptoms of EV-D68 include fever (although fever may not be present), runny nose, sneezing, cough, and body and muscle aches. Some children have more serious illness with breathing difficulty and wheezing, particularly children with a history of asthma.

Parents should seek medical attention immediately for children who are having any breathing difficulty.

There is no specific treatment for the virus and there is no vaccine to prevent it.

The best way to prevent transmission of enteroviruses is to:

• Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after changing diapers.

• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Avoid kissing, hugging, and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick.

• Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick.

Based on the maps I posted, it seems more like the disease is following the interstate highway system. That is probably because the illegals were transported on those main highways (like I-35 N/S and I-70 E/W) and could have infected people everywhere they stopped for gas, bathroom, food, etc.

However, the main HUB is KANSAS CITY. If they infected someone in KC (KC was one of the first to report the virus), then it no longer even needed the recent 'refugee children' to spread. Follow the major Highways and you can follow the path of the spread of the disease.
