The House on Wednesday approved President Obama's request to arm and train Syrian rebels in the fight against ISIS.
With significant opposition to the proposal in both parties, the vote was 273 -156. More than one third of the House -- 71 Republicans and 85 Democrats -- voted no.
Many Republicans argue the strategy isn't tough enough to defeat ISIS; many Democrats worry the plan could drag the United States into another long military engagement.
The proposal would authorize the Pentagon to provide assistance to "appropriately vetted" members of the Syrian opposition and require the administration to give Congress a detailed plan for helping the rebels before that assistance could begin.
The Senate will vote Thursday on the proposal.

Vote them all out. Every last one of them. This government needs to be aborted.
I don’t believe in isolationism, but these guys are nuts...
A leap ... O’er the cliff.
Elections have consequences.
“appropriately vetted”
That’s asinine. There isn’t anyone in this administration who could competently get that job done!!!
You just watch, eventually, all these weapons that we give the SYRIANS will wind up with ISIS or another MUSLIM JIHADISTS organization. We really haven’t learned anything have we? The weapons we supplied the Afghanistan Mujahiddin to fight the Russians, were used against us. The weapons we supplied the SHIA Muslims in Iraq, are now being used against the Muslims and everybody else, including us.
“Moderate rebel” is an oxymoron.
Moderates don’t rebel.
friend today, heavily armed enemy tomorrow. No question about it, those who voted in favor of this are stupid and suicidal
“moderate” compared to ISIS.
I guess that means Al Qaeda.
Obama wanted to bomb Assad but there was not the political will. This is probably all a ruse to attack Assad.
I mean they cant be as stupid as they appear to be, can they?
Lets arm everybody. What insanity. We’ve been doing this for many years and look at the results. Minding your own business is not isolationism.
We armed the Afghans who (the Taliban & al Queida) used our arms against us. We have armed ISIS, who are using our arms against us. Now other Muslim factions, who almost certainly hate us, but not in the immediate sense of their hate of ISIS. That only means we may be 2nd on the list.
The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily our friend. Do we never ever learn this lesson???
If the threat is great enough to require military action, do it yourself, give them a knock-out punch, and get the hell out . . . with your equipment and military assets.
RE: Lets arm everybody.
We also armed the Mexican drug lords. Remember Fast and Furious? ( No, I don’t think many remember ).
IDIOTS...........
So, let’s look at this so far.. A long ilconcieved plan to overthrow Syria’s leader resulted in our arming of Islamics who became ISIS and now our new solution is to arm Islamics who aren’t ISIS to overthrow the Islamics that we armed before... Almost all of whom are Al Queda who are buying DVDs of beheading videos as they all think that part is cool, just the killing of fellow Islamics aren’t cool, unless it was gays or women or smokers or drinkers...
Kinda how we armed Islamics in Afghanistan to overthrow the Russians who later flew four passenger planes as if they were cruise missiles.
I’m more than a bit used to liberals doing the old ‘If it didn’t work last time, repeat as obviously conservatives screwed up the plan’, and how we have so many liberals waiving the Republican banner.
But shouldn’t it be a massive red flag to just about anyone when you have bipartisan rejection of a plan that maybe this is more than a bit stupid to do it again?
Rebels get free weapons so they can sell them to ISIS ,a Win Win for Obama
This will make the US government-supported murder of officer Brian Terry seem like kindergarten playtime.
Pray for our troops.
