I saw several flocks overnighting at ponds on my drive to souther Yortk Cty, this morning. Fall ‘officially’ clocks-in Tue 22nd at 10:30pm. Far as I’m concerned, it’s already been here a few weeks.

When you go into the Army, your actual term of service is 6 years. So you would typically do 3 years of active duty and be in the reserves for 3 years. People in the reserves would be the first ones to be called up if a war breaks out. The National Guard units are controlled by the states but can be federalized by the prez. Guard units usually meet once a month and have 2 weeks of training each summer.

Back in 1992 a Lt. Col. (USAF I think) wrote about the future that many back then envisioned.. a hollowed out military, assigned to do civilian tasks, no time or funds for military functions, and a disaster.. the military finally! acted in 2012.
