Odile will unload tremendous rainfall over a large part of the Southwest United States that will run off the mountains and into the desert valleys and plains through the end of the week.
While the rain will continue to ease the long-term drought in the region, too much rain will fall too quickly for the landscape to absorb.

Or not. So far we’ve got some drizzles in Tucson. Sticky but pleasant.
No problemo! I DO IT ALL THE TIME!.........
The first time I was ever in Phoenix I was down there going to work out at Palo Verde NGS. So they gave me directions and told me to head west and “cross the river” and so on and so on. So I start driving down the road I was supposed to be on and kept driving but never crossed a river. So I turn around and go back and they say that there is no river but the dry river bed that the road drops into and across!
Never seen it flood in person but have seen many videos of that area since and it flat gets to rolling!
It happens. Not common but not unusual. Hurricane Nora was the last I remember in 1997. The el Nino effect seems to steer them into the Sea of Cortez.
I like that...
Too bad that according to the projection at post 11 it will miss and therefore not cleanse Searchlight and its offspring...
Yep. The storms are due to hit this afternoon. We will probably lose some shingles off the roofs, but I doubt it will do much more damage where I live...up above it all, actually.
Everything is downhill from here...including Searchlight.
I,m right in the middle of it and the asshatz put this weeks tent on dirt. D I R T. !!!!!!!
Not deep thinkers,them
Too bad it is not going up the California coast.
Hope yer OK.
Stay safe.
Yup. We could use a couple of ounces of rain up here in the Truckee Meadows area and around Lake Tahoe. Poor Truckee River looks pretty sad these days.
Good luck.
And if some genie asks what to do with Searchlight, a wall, and fill it up.
Hit a puddle and took a header already
Im Ray Nagin chocolate folk now
Wait until Harry is there before doing that...
Just rained like crazy in west Glendale
Desert sky mall. Small lake in places
Hey my...?
How much rain has to fall in Tucson for there to be catastrophic flooding...an inch and a half, or so?
I was in Palm Springs years ago when rainfall created a 6’ wash in a matter of minutes. Can be pretty treacherous out there, with basically nothing to absorb all that water. THO, I must admit the following Spring was absolutely gorgeous with wildflowers growing through the desert. I sure hope folks take appropriate precautions.
I used to live a mile east of there. Never had significant rain.
Living in Sierra Vista, now. We’ve had steady rain all day, but the run-off appears to be manageable.
Don’t know what tomorrow will bring.
LOL!
