Mother gets prison time, deportation in strangling death of her newborn

SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. (PIX11) – A New York mother was sentenced to prison time and mandatory deportation Monday after she pleaded guilty to strangling her hours-old son and dumping his body in a recycling container, authorities said.

Maria Oliva Guaman-Guaman, now 24, was sentenced to 12 years in state prison with five years’ post-release supervision, according to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.

Yet she was smart enough to find her way to the U.S from Guatemala.
