I like your analogy, but, unfortunately, the GOP is LINUX, without the technical advantages.
Yet, Linux doesn't hold the house of representatives, and it has close to half of the senate. If Linux were to be anywhere close to what the GOP is or has, then, Linux would be the most popular OS in the country and world.
Regardless, the link and study on which this discussion is based, is pure crap. Read it.

I think calling this a study is too much—it is simply garbage. And so is the GOP’s lack of any message in what should be one of their best election cycles.
The Democrats are scared, but it’s only their own shadow behind them. The GOP is nowhere to be seen or heard. Where is the rhetoric of Reagan or even Newt? 6 years of sedition and nothing but whining and hand wringing from your precious GOP Congress. There’s not three men among them and not half of one in a major position.
