Not all places make it ease to own guns. Also, if you have kids, it may not be too wise to put one in a drawer next to the bed. Figure probability of kid finding gun, vs. break in. Hornet spray might be good compromise.

I have a beautiful finger touch safe on the nightstand on my side of the bed. There is a .357 and a .45 in there. It takes me between 4 and 6 seconds to be armed from a dead sleep depending on my position in the bed.

Hornet spray IS NOT very affective. It tastes real bad and stinks pretty good. If you do hit their eyes, it might be affective. But it doesn't burn your skin, throat, nose and lungs like a good pepper spray. I encourage you to test it indirectly. Ever spray hornet spray above you and/or into the wind? Try it. Now try the same thing with a good pepper spray. Then decide if the advice here is any good.

No, hornet spray is not a good compromise. If anything it'll be used to keep you quiet once you and your family are tied up. Same with pepper spray. My gun is not just "in a drawer". It's in a quick-access lockbox and I can have it open and in my hand in seconds. They're not expensive. They're easy to mount. I also keep a mag light next it. I will not shoot in the dark but if I shine that light on anyone that I don't recognize, they will die. People that enter other peoples homes in the night have forfeited their right to life.
