Sorry, Ziens, but your strategy won’t work, can’t work and should not be expected to work. Layered security is the only realistic solution to home invasion. Passive deterrents, supported by active barriers and finally, personal defensive tactics create a strategy that first discourages such crime (in order from out to inside-cameras, lights, landscaping, windows & doors and proper hinges/locks and alarms followed by active and lethal self defense tools/tactics and most importantly, mindset ( or a really comfy and expensive safe room) and training make up the compliment of necessary layers that do work, even in the worst areas.

As a security professional, I am amazed at how naïve many folks are-when it comes down to it, if a bad guy(s) make it inside, you better bet on the fact that they really don’t care about letting you or your family live- they already know they are on tape, the civil response clock is running and they have little time to deal with niceties or chivalry.... If you let them get inside, you’d better be able, willing and capable of dealing with them lethally. Most folks are not, especially those who think it won’t happen to them, or that they will be able to play along and live....

My daughter is at college and carries a spring-loaded knife at all times. She gets friction from the illegals downtown when she is walking home. I’m afraid one day she is going to kill one of them.
