I read a report that said wasp spray was no more effective than spraying any canned chemical (except mace or pepper spray) and was completely ineffective in repelling an attacker. It’s an urban myth.

Here is one that will work though it is a very short range solution

Take a 1 pint atomizer bottle
Add two tables spoons of ammonia + a dollop of laundry soap
Fill with water.

Set it on mist and spray a cloud of that in front of someone. It works like tear gas.

I use this on a bicycle to repel dogs. You could rob a store with this stuff.

That said - a .410 pump shot gun would be a better option in a home. They are easier to handle than a pistol make more noise and don’t require you to be as good a shot
