Damaged? No, not all. I look upon my childhood as a great time...Have and had wonderful parents and grandparents (non-abusive).

I have a couple physicians in my family and they would explain that older adults and seniors didn’t like to use the term “molested” and other more descriptive terms. They would say “loving” in describing these people. I even heard clergy say this as well.

And, my use of “grandfather” was a fill in the blank easily substituted with anyone.

Maybe that explains things better.

Grandfathers was an unfortunate choice, but I never heard that language that you are describing.

I know about the hypocrisy of the NFL and Rush...but there's another element to this--and I'm sorry to say it has to do with his multiple marriages and his dislike for women. Before you get all huffy, I doubt that you could be a bigger fan of Rush than I am. But you don't get to your fourth marriage by having a love for the company if women.

I don't mean he mistreats them. Many if his women colleagues have a lot if praise for him. I mean he resents them. My opinion in this has more to do with having listened to him for many years, and noticing his attitude toward his mother as opposed to the reverence he holds for his dad and grandfather.

And I roll my eyes at the "undeniable truth if life" that boils down to... only young and attractive woman are worth anything...this us why I wince when he goes after Hillary for her lack of sex appeal.

Yesterday a sad man called about his woes at his marriage to a violent, crazy woman, like Rice's wife. In my life I have seen a few awful marriages like these among people I have known. I also saw these same men refuse to listen to warnings, and I suspect this sad man was so besotted by a young face, a pair of boobs to hear that she was a cheat and a liar.

“Must be a lot of Dr. Spock raised people here.”

I was think the same...scary when people on a site like ours get infected too.

...and don’t, for a minute, think that government efforts to provide “free daycare” has ANYTHING TO DO with giving these kids a “head start”, since the government has shown they’re simply unable to do that, but rather to get some “official eyes” on the kids (so they can look for bruises and start asking questions). Right now, the only “official eyes” they have on kids are pediatricians, and most parents know enough to NEVER leave their kids alone with them.

I’m surprised most people on this site don’t support that too, while they’re at it.

I guess the first thing TMZ can do for all of us is give us a list of his children, and who their mothers are!

That's not going to happen. Peterson won't answer when asked how many children he has. He says that he knows how many and that's what's important.

A 'dancer' at a local Texas club says he has seven, but doesn't say how may different mothers are involved.

The incident that led to Peterson using the switch on his four-year-old son was that the son wanted the video game controller and had pushed another boy out of the way to get it.

Putting issues of discipline vs. abuse aside for a moment, why are we accepting the idea of sports organizations becoming the justice department? There seems to be a sudden increase in that flawed mentality.

It is unfortunate that more parents are not adept at training their children. A well trained child rarely needs any discipline. And yes I have four including college aged.

Really? A child displays normal behavior and that leads the parent to whip the child?

Nice parenting skills.

Stand by what I said previously...adults should not be whipping 4 year old children w/ switches...or any other item that would leave open sores and bruising.

Seriously. Of course, we don’t know how many times the child was warned, or how many times this had happened, or how rough the child was in pushing the other child away.

Ansel12, I’m surprised at you. I believe in parents disciplining their own children without govt. or Hillary’s village interfering and I sound damaged? LOL! Besides, I got the belt, not the switch and it was on very rare occasions. I was one of those always want to please my parents type kids.

As for the switches your family used, depending on the plant material used, each switch will have its own properties. Hardwoods don’t bend. They tend not to leave marks like those on Adrian Peterson’s child unless you use tremendous force. Yet in the South, there were these special bushes. I don’t even remember what they are called. But the branches are extremely pliable and the leaves are easily removed. With just a flick of the hand a switch made from it can leave welts, even blood filled welts like the ones in the photos. And if a child was sent to get a switch and came back with a twig. They ended up getting disciplined with a switch from one of those bushes.

I have no right to judge any other parents’ method of discipline. The rules, and consequences for breaking the rules need to be up to the parents. Physical discipline can be more forgiving than the forms of mental anguish I’ve seen some parents use on their children. The sting of the switch, ruler, wooden spoon or belt don’t last forever. Even the blood filled welts will go away. Though the memory of the pain should work as a reminder not to do the offending activity again.

I mentioned the stove because it is a part of life, just like children who try to put metal into electrical sockets or run into the street. Children should learn not to do things like touch hot stoves. Some learn the easy way and some learn the hard way. If you discipline your children while they are young, they won’t have to learn the hard way.

The worse case of discipline I ever heard someone using did not deal with physical punishment at all. A woman I met who was a functional alcoholic told me this story. I’ll never forget her or her story. When she and her brother were young. They wanted certain special gifts for Christmas. They got excited as children do and waited patiently until Christmas morning. They found the very things they had asked for waiting under the tree. They were so excited, they opened the gifts and just as they began to play, their parents came took the presents away from them and marched the children outside. The parents made both children throw their gifts in the trash can. I asked her why and she said she didn’t even remember.

I barely remember the feeling of the worse physical punishment I’ve ever received, but I remember what it was for and I never did it again. That poor woman didn’t even remember what she had been punished for but the memory of being forced to throw their Christmas gifts in a garbage can have never left. Did it help her to remember not to do it again? Who knows. It helped me to realize there are some things in this world worse than physical discipline.

You shouldn’t be surprised at my reaction to two 4 year olds being left bloodied and scarred from a beating.

I am from the South, I know about switches, but your support for bloody, beaten, even scarred 4 year olds is perverted, and was not a part of our culture.

Like I said, you sound like damaged goods, it happens.

Only a badly damaged person could confuse child abuse of leaving 4 year olds with scarring and bleeding wounds from whippings, a bleeding heart liberal.
