“A good Ford CEO has access to measures no president should ever have. The skill set a business CEO should have is fundamentally different from those skills a politician should have.”
Perhaps. . .but the president is CEO of the country, not king (notwithstanding the current resident).
His CEO skills are very valuable and a great CEO like him can do many good things, and has done.
We are opposed to professional politicians, we wail/rail against professional politicians.
Want a CEO with great skills to make the government function. . .no we don’t.
A CEO of a business can sell off or shut down a division like Mercury. A political CEO an’t sell Georgia or Ohio. A business CEO can downsize, laying off or firing half the staff. A political CEO cannot send half the population away. A business CEO’s primary responsibility is to the owners, i.e. the stockholders. A Political CEO’s primary responsibility is to the Constitution. The Nation’s CEO can declare war and send forces to kill or be killed. A business CEO, gratefully, cannot do such things.
I value the skills of a business CEO and a case can be made for some of them perhaps but, as a general rule, I think the skills of a good governor are much more directly transferable to the oval office.
