Anti-Democratic sentiment in Lousiana proves problem for moderate Landrieu

Sen. Mary Landrieu's best hope for re-election? Change the letter behind her name from a "D" to an "R," says a Louisiana newspaper.

Landrieu is one of the senators in one of the tightest rates this year — and if she loses, her loss could potentially flip the Senate to Republican control.

An article in the Baton Rouge Advocate says Landrieu essentially acts like a Republican anyway but that the party label is a scarlet letter.

“She has a letter behind her name, D, and it’s toxic,” Joshua Stockley, a political science professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, told the Advocate. “It is incredibly toxic being a Democrat in the South.”

“She could switch her party tomorrow, as a Republican, and win ... Her stance on the issues would be almost completely consistent with her [new] party. She acts like a Republican already.”

The idea pits Landrieu's career advocating for her state against the political wishes of a national party.

Democrats don't need her to act liberal — they merely need her to win re-election while caucusing with Democrats, giving them the numbers to have a majority and thus control the Senate's committees.

But as long as voters identify her with the party of President Obama, Louisiana voters may choose one of her Republican opponents instead, observers told the newspaper.

Landrieu's two main challengers are Republicans U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy and Tea Party conservative Rob Maness.

I suppose that is arguably true, but she comes nowhere near acting like a conservative. (Nor, apparently, does Cassidy for that matter.)

"moderate" Landrieu

"Moderate" has a new meaning I guess, what used to be called leftist.

The truth is that approximately seventy-five senators could change from Republican to Democrat or Democrat to Republican, and it really wouldn’t make them any different. They represent special interest groups, lobbyists, and agenda platforms....not a real political party or their voters, or their states.

This is the reality of the system handed down to us from the early believers in the Republic.

“Moderate Landrieu”

Moderately arrogant

Moderately dishonest

Moderately as crooked as a mountain cow path

Which is why we need to repeal the 17th amendment.

She’s no Republican, even though the Democrat university professors say so. Republicans did not vote for ObamaCare. Democrats like Landrieu did. It took every Democrat to vote for the ACA, so hers was the deciding vote. Never forget it.

LOL. The only reason Miss Piggy might possibly be viewed as “moderate” is because she’s from a conservative state and has to go back and say conservative things every once in a while, just like Manchin. Otherwise, she is an Inside-the-Beltway elitist Lib like the others.

Liberal newspapers are pushing the same lie about Hillary. They do this crap every election... telling readers some left-wing idiot is really 'conservative'. Often they pretend to lament the fact... It's just a lie - an attempt to appeal to a swing voter.

To the extent that statement is true, it's not because Landrieu is more Republican, but because Republicans are more Democrat.

Also, polls don't matter in Louisiana elections. All that matters is the get-out-the-vote machine, which the Landrieus all but own.

Yes, the 17th must go.

Here's an FR post on the topic from The Washington Examiner, Washington is Divided Because it Abandoned Federalism.

Landrieu supported ObamaCare. that is an absolute disqualifying position, and I will forever oppose anyone who took that anti-American position. Whether they opposed individual freedom out of ignorance or out of a lust for power (presumably motivated by evil), that position is unforgivable.

Quite telling when a Senator who scores an 88% leftist rating is called a “Moderate” who essentially “acts (votes) like a Republican” by media types.

“Moderate” in leftist speak means a Stalinist-lite.

What a load of BS. Find me any Republican Senator who opposed Samuel Alito, voted for Obamacare, voted for a "path to citizenship" for illegal aliens, championed more federal gun control laws, supports gay marriage, has a 100% rating for NARAL Pro-Choice America, supports Common Core education standards, opposed extending the Bush tax cuts, etc., etc.

Even the worst RINOs in the Senate like Kirk and Murkowski aren't as bad as Landrieu. They're more in the mold of a "moderate Democrat" than she is!

If Landrieu is their idea of conservative, then the liberal media is completely detached from reality.

The IL Combine’s war on Pete Fitzgerald (spearheaded by RINO enforcer Ray LaThug) paved the way for Zero’s rise to power (and LaThug’s reward of a Cabinet post by Zero).
