Italian Typhoon Jets Perform Supersonic Scramble to Escort Lebanese Airbus 320 [Bomb Threat]

Two loud sonic booms were heard at around 1.45PM LT in Central Italy as two Italian Air Force Typhoons accelerated to supersonic speed to intercept Middle East Airlines 214 flight, an Airbus 320 from Geneva to Beirut.

The two fighter planes, belonging to the 4° Stormo (Wing) from Grosseto, in QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) service round the clock together with those of the 36° Stormo from Gioia del Colle, were dispatched to intercept the Lebanese plane that, once flying over Bari, in southeastern Italy, radioed the Italian Air Traffic Control the request to land at Rome Fiumicino airport, because of a bomb threat.

The two armed Typhoons intercepted the Airbus 320 T7-MRC and escorted it to landing on runway 16R at Fiumicino airport, then circled at low altitude over the sea near the airport, until security forces surrounded the plane and brought it to an isolated parking slot.

The subsequent inspection did not find any bomb aboard the plane.

Italy has been on high alert for the last few days because ISIS has been threatening the Pope.

But all the liberals claim the Islamic State is no threat, is easily intimidated by Obama’s golf score, and isn’t Islamic anyway. Otherwise they’d certainly be the first ones to be worried about the Pope.

If it was flying south from Switzerland to the middle east, and had gotten as far as Bari, why would anyone let it turn back toward Rome? The runways at Bari can easily handle a plane that size.

About like saying there was a terror threat on an airplane near Pittsburgh and bringing it back to Reagan National in DC.

That’s a weird one. Maybe that airport had security forces that were better equipped to handle the situation or there was something advantageous about its location. I’m totally guessing here.

No.
The EPA, the FAA and the NIH forbid it without an environmental report, hearings, and permissions from Valerie Jarrett and Lois Lerner.

The scenario that scares me is a pilot suicide mission to the Vatican and St. Peters. We all know that that is a dream of theirs.

None of the fighter flights I saw in the area on 9/11/2001 or the days after created sonic booms.

Not on 9/11. But, back a couple years ago, while Obama was visiting Seattle, some nitwit in a private plane blundered into the no-fly zone. They scrambled 2 F-15's out of Portland...and those suckers DID go supersonic. The boom rattled houses (including mine) from Chehalis all the way to Seattle.

“go supersonic”

Yes. The F16s from the 147th Fighter Group at Ellington Field in Houston went supersonic over the Gulf when they went to intercept Air Force One coming out of Florida.

They stayed with AF One to Barksdale, Offutt and Andrews but are not the Falcons the reporters filmed out the windows the next day. Those were ground attack guys from Andrews.

That screenshot is from this site: http://www.flightradar24.com/60,15/6

It is neat to look at all the airplanes flying around the world. Just use your the mouse wheel to zoom out or in. Hold the left mouse button down to drag the map around. Many flights showing in the west in the USA. BTW there are zero flights in North Korea....
