(Reuters) - Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sacked 10 senior officials because they failed to heed a warning to return from overseas travel to help the government's fight against an Ebola epidemic that has killed at least 1,100 Liberians.
The officials, who include six assistant ministers, two deputy ministers and two commissioners, were dismissed with immediate effect for being "out of the country without an excuse," according to a statement from the president's office.
They were initially told in August to return to Liberia.

Bring Out Your Dead
Were gonna need
a bigger cart!
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Doesn't this summarize the situation perfectly? You've got a dysfunctional country who expect help from everyone else, but its ministers aren't even there to assist in fighting the crisis.
The US should revoke their visas and send them home. We can't help people who won't help themselves.
officials overseas who refuse to return home
We’ve got the opposite problem in the USA ...
... officials here who refuse to leave.
Put him in charge of our schools!
So as of now they are illegal aliens.
Of course if they are in the US that presents no problem.
They took their jobs as gov't representatives, and took all the perks and privileges, never minding the responsibilities that went along with them.
I am reminded of certain US soldiers who enlisted to get medical training, then wanted to renege when their unit was called up for deployment.
And certain US Senators who promised to represent their respective states, who moved to Washington and never came back...
They got out while the gettin’ was good.
Not a problem at all. Claim sanctuary and we’ll foot the bill for them the rest of their lives and their kids’ lives. Hey, where do I sign up!

Better to be sacked by one than to be carried by six, as the old saying goes.
I would be more impressed with the President of Liberia if her son,the doctor, wasn’t sitting safely in the United States. Since Liberia is in desperate need of medical practitioners perhaps he should be expected to also assist with the country’s crisis.
Thanks for the ping!
The President of Liberia can’t get his cabinet ministers to come back to their posts in Monrovia, so he fired them.
This is in my “flaming datum” matrix for the death by Ebola of Liberia.
