Oh, I agree, this country is bombarded with “issues”, esp. under this administration. But, an EMP is a possibility, that we should be aware of, and attempt to at least be prepared of its consequences.
People that work in the industry are well aware of it.
I’d be far more “worried” about terrorists attacking substations in a coordinated manner to cause a cascading failure.
