A switch is intended to sting, and it will leave a welt. I’m from a different era, I guess, and I used to get switched. It hurt. It worked. I still think my mom loved me.

Of course, anything can be taken overboard, but I don’t seem to be getting that sense here.

When I was a kid, I and all my close friends received pretty severe switchings. Mother was not quite as brutal as Daddy but she would also sometimes switch us.

Now my parents were excellent parents. My Mother, I consider the best person I ever knew. I am sure all of us kids could today get our Fathers convicted of child abuse.

Geeze man, I got hit by 70’s era Phone handsets, curtain rods, ping pong paddles, broom handles, belts, shoes, flashlights, hair brushes, wooden spoons, salad bowl tongs ... almost everything but a switch ... whatever my Irish mother could find.

my grandma had switches. A bunch in one of the bedrooms. The cousins and I would hide them. I think I was the only grandchild she watched who never got the switch :)))

I always got “the belt” and always had to “smell it” first. LOL! I thank my parents for it. Unlike most “parental units” these days, my parents weren’t terrified of their children.

I was raised by good, decent, loving parents who used a switch that we had to break off a tree or bush ourselves, among other things ranging from a hair brush to the back of a hand to discipline a house full of boys. Everyone of us are now retired, had successful careers, all married with children, none divorced, all attend church most every Sunday. And when we have family gatherings we often talk about how we were raised. I recommend the switch for disciplining boys.

Black kids don’t have fathers. This is clearly abuse.

My dad used to spank my butt with a belt or a curtain rod. it hurt but it wasn’t abuse and I deserved it. ‘Spare the rod, spoil the child’.

I’m all for corporal punishment but not for a 4 year old and leaving severe cuts and bruises across the back and legs.
There has to be a line and from the looks of the photos that line was crossed.

FIrst evidently Goodell hits Rice’s wife in an elevator and now hits Peterson’s kid with a switch. They need to shut the NFL down!

As I got older a switch no longer hurt as bad. One night when I was 13 I came home drunk from Mexico and my Mother used a 2X4. I never thought it abuse but I sure did hurt the next day. That was about the last time I got a whipping. This was in Texas too.

There’s a difference between a spanking and beating. If you have to stop to figure out the difference, you should not be administering either.
