It's still summer, but a snowstorm blanketed parts of Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana and Colorado, setting early snowfall records in some places, covering lawns and flower gardens and providing a preview of what is to come.
The snowstorm dumped up to 20 inches of snow in parts of Wyoming on Wednesday and Thursday and sent overnight temperatures plummeting into the 20s in some areas.
While snow in September is rare, it isn't unusual for ...
it was the earliest snowfall on record for parts of Wyoming and southwest South Dakota. Temperatures hovered around freezing in Denver, forcing many gardeners to wrap their plants for protection.
Hard frosts were reported in western Montana. Kalispell reported a record low of 23 degrees Friday morning while Missoula's record low was 25, compared with 28 in 1988.

And Lake Superior had ice up until June and the Arctic ice covers a greater extent than in years.
Sorry, algore
Not sure about the Black Hills.
That whole Global Warming thing?
Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door!
We all need to cut back on those curly fluorescent light bulbs. They’re obviously more effective than the central planners had planned for.
Arogant humans think they understand our world. They know nothing.
I’m thinking we need to build some CO2 generators....
Black Hills.........we got between six and eight inches here. Waarmed up today and it’s nearly all gone. It was really pretty while it lasted. I’ve seen earlier snows here in years past.
Was simple math a chore?
Can’t take physics any more?
But you want to seem smart
And display your technical art.
You can go where your talent isn’t needed
And publish things that won’t ever be believed
Climate science is the place for you
And for progressives without a clue.
You right wing deniers, tsk, tsk, tsk. Don’t you know global man made warming/man made climate change/man made everybody is going to die is settled science. This snowfall and these cool temperatures are just Koch brother propaganda.
Luckily it was “Global Warming Snow” which doesn’t count.
Mankind knows one tenth of one percent of nothing. I know that is a quote but cannot locate it.
I arrived at Denver/Airport from a trip around the west, on Sept. 1, 1971. It was a beautiful 75-80 degree day.
On Sept. 15th, it snowed about 6-9 inches. No global warming crap back then. Just plain old weather.
Plain old weather....
That’s the real bottom line, Max. The weather changes and always has.
It is just weather. Been down into the 20s here in parts of North Eastern California the last few days and have seen it snow here on the Fourth of July. No big deal.
September...not UNHEARD of.
Like it says, a record in some places. And not late anyplace.
