Student petitions school to allow photo with his cat in yearbook

Draven Rodriguez, a senior at Schenectady High School in upstate New York is petitioning his school to allow him to use his unique cat-and-laser photo as his senior yearbook portrait.

“I don’t want to go in the yearbook with the generic ‘I-look-like-everyone-else’ photo,” Rodriguez told the Daily Gazette. “I wanted a ‘He looks great. Only he would try that’ photo.” Rather than a classic and “generic” senior portrait, the 16-year-old is submitting a photo that features both himself and his beloved cat, Mr. Bigglesworth.

His petition reads:

Hi all. This is my photo that should be going into the yearbook, but we know how finicky the school systems can be. I’m hoping that with enough signatures, my school simply can’t turn this down.

Edit: To clarify, the school HAS NOT YET DECLINED this photo. This is my pre-emptive strike just in case such a thing were to happen. I wanted as many backers as possible before the deadline of September 15th.

Photo creds to Vincent Giordano, who took and edited this photo. When Rodriguez created the petition, his goal was to get 500 signatures, but due to national media attention (and because the Internet can’t deny a good cat story!), he has surpassed that goal seven-fold, with nearly 3,600 having signed as of Friday morning.

Though the deadline for photo submissions hasn’t yet passed (it’s Monday, September 15), school district spokeswoman Karen Corona said that the photo is permitted for use in the yearbook, but “that will not appear in the portrait section.

That picture made me LOL.

He certainly isn’t easily embarrassed. I guess that can be a good thing.

Well, one thing’s for sure. That year book should be all about him and his cat.

Talk about an embarrassing school photo that you cringe at many years from now. . .let the poofter have his way and suffer a terminal case of ‘rue’ when he discovers how many people are laughing at him.

I’m guessing he will matriculate at the University of San Francisco.

I see him playing in the NFL...either a wide receiver, tight end, or split end.

I am thinking this photo is going to guarantee that’s the only pussy this guy ever gets.

And maybe question if he bats for the other team.
