Well now, it appears that what these 'religious leaders' really are is bigots: "He showed a true lack of sensitivity for the people he was speaking to, especially the religious leaders who were there ..." With this revelation we discover that Dent was uncomfortable with NOT being lied to. Dent wanted Ted to lie to the group, not tell them the truth of how he feels regarding Israel.
