The University of Illinois board of trustees on Thursday affirmed its refusal to hire a professor who posted a series of harsh anti-Israel tweets this summer. The professor says the act is part of an effort by “wealthy and well organized groups to attack pro-Palestinian students and faculty.”
The case has drawn wide attention on college campuses because it raises the issue of the suppression of academic freedom around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict—a hot-button topic at universities across the country.
Steven Salaita, a Palestinian-American professor with an expertise in indigenous studies, accepted a tenure-track position last year to start working in the American Indian Studies Program in Illinois in August. In preparation for his new job, he said he quit his old post at Virginia Tech and sold his house. Then, during the Israel offensive in Gaza this summer, he posted a series of opinions against Israel on Twitter. …

For every dip stick like this, who doesn't get hired because of his anti Israel stance, there might be 20 who don't get hired because they are pro Israel. That is probably a stretch, because there probably aren't 20 professors in the US that are pro Israel, but if there were, the same thing applies.

Maybe this terrorist has a point then. If you HATE AMERICA, you get job offers, like the one in Illinois, but if you HATE ISRAEL, then the same offer is pulled?

I am not sure what is more pathetic: The fact that there is such a field as "indigenous studies" or that one can gain a tenured position in such a field.
This is one of those recently made up programs such as 'ethnic studies' or 'gender studies' that schools had to create once college became a "right" so they needed fields of study in which the students who are really not qualified for college level academics could major.
Another one of those majors where the profs & students spend 4 years railing against the USA and white-male heterosexual Christians as the scourge of humanity before taking a 'teaching' job or a gig at Starbucks.
