Attacking Syria May Entangle US In Rebel Rivalries September 12 2014 DIAA HADID

€” In expanding its airstrikes into Syria against Islamic State extremists, the U.S. could find itself entangled in a morass of jihadis, rebel rivalries and religious hatred.

Unlike Iraq, the U.S. has no firm allies inside Syria to take over areas if fighters from the Islamic State group are pushed back. Unless the West decisively backs the outgunned moderate rebels, it risks the unintended consequence of prolonging the widely discredited rule of President Bashar Assad.

President Barack Obama said Wednesday that in the fight against the Islamic State group, the U.S. "cannot rely on an Assad regime that terrorizes its own people — a regime that will never regain the legitimacy it has lost."

"Instead, we must strengthen the opposition as the best counterweight to extremists like ISIL, while pursuing the political solution necessary to solve Syria's crisis once and for all," Obama said, referring to the Islamic State group by one of its acronyms.

But it's a lot more complicated.

If there’s a way to wrap steel cable around our rear axle, Kerry, Obama & company will find it.

"As President Obama laid out his 'strategy' last night for dealing with ISIS in Iraq and Syria, and as bipartisan leadership in Congress push to approve as much as $4 billion to arm the Syrian 'rebels,' it should be noted that the keystone to his anti-Assad policy — the 'vetted moderate' Free Syrian Army (FSA) — is now admitting that they, too, are working with the Islamic State."

‘Vetted Moderate’ Free Syrian Army Commander Admits Alliance with ISIS

Free Syria Army is who Obama has been arming. They're the "good" rebels. They're the guys McCain posed with.

There is no reason for the US to arm ANY rebels.

Assad is the Good Guy in this mess. Assad is a very very very bad man, but the Rebels are worse. By a long shot.

Liberals used to be against regime change. Now they support it in Libya and now Syria

Yes, and our dog in this fight is the ‘rebels’. We will bomb Assad in Syria, not ISIL. That’s why the Russians are bitching that we need Assad’s permission - they know our real motivations.

Russia supports Iran and Assad and Shia.

US supports Sunnis...MB, Saud,ISIL, FSA, Turkey, Jordan, Israel, etc. Stems from conflict between Iran and Israel.

This is a the beginning of WWIII.

What is it with Obama that he has this mania to topple Assad in Syria? The Free Syria Army have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qeada, and ISIS. Compared to them, Assad is benign. Got it now, Assad will protect the Alawite Muslims, Druze Muslims, Shi'ite Muslims, and Christians (26% of Syrian population). Obama’s gone over to the Sunnis that make up 74% of Syrian population. he's doing the bidding of his Saudi puppet masters.

Yes. Thats how I see it.

There is no substantial difference between ISIS and the "rebels".

The game is to close Iran's window on the Mediterranean by overthrowing Assad. And the trick is taking Al Qaeda, our enemy, and re-directing them against an enemy of our choice.

The problem is that they are still the same people, and they are slaughtering innocents where ever they go. As you say, by comparison, Assad is the good guy. I'm sure to someone it seemed like a clever solution to a problem but the outcome is monstrous. Because if you just wind these people up and turn them loose, they are going to do what it is in their nature to do.

And in the end we have sponsored the slaughter of Christians all over the middle east and installed Al Qaeda on Israel's border. And given them an oil economy to boot.

The Turks and Saudis don't see this as a problem, and I don't think Obama sees it as anything more than a PR problem.

Our American mindset is instant. Five days ago was a long time, and five days in the future isn’t on the screen yet. And our solution to everything is the microwave.

The rest of world remembers stuff someone said or did 1,000 years ago, and they’re still formulating a way to get even.

We would do well to go back at least 200 years to ask some relevant questions about the origins of this present rash of head chopping. Otherwise, we get people hating us for a very long time.

I think you have nailed it. I don’t think Barry Soetoro Obama is capable of this deep thought, but Valerie Jarrett with her Iranian connection, could serve to pull Obama’s strings in the way Tehran wants. Obama IS responsible for the genocide being practiced on Middle East Christians!
