On the carrier we always had alert aircraft at different stages (5/15/30 min) depending on where we were in the world and they were always already loaded with at least a minimum defensive load - I can’t imagine why the Air Force wouldn’t have the same especially at Andrews. Were we really that lax?

when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor, The AFB next door was derisively called "The Chair Force" because there was way more sitting around going on there than any type of flying taking place. More golfing too.

Yeah, but what happens when all the catapults simultaneously break? Then your alert aircraft do you no good. It happened in Top Gun, it could happen anytime.
