You’re surprised that a Christian hates Jews? You haven’t read much history. I’m a 65 year old Jew, and in my lifetime, I’ve encountered plenty of Christians who hated Jews, mostly not to the point that they would do anything violent, but not always.

About twenty years ago members of my congregation going to synagogue for Saturday morning Sabbath services found a pig head hanging on the door. To the credit of our community, 400 people of all denominations showed up that week for a unity service, and the judge threw the book at the perps.

In the Middle East, it’s compounded by the lack of civilization there, and the fact that Arab Christians are Arabs first. I encountered that when talking to a Lebanese woman right after 9-11. She is Christian, and her brother had been murdered by Palestinians. Yet, she hates Israel.

I grew up Baptist in the south, now married to a Jewish woman. I never met any Christians that were anti Israel or Jewish. As a matter of fact, I was taught that the Jews are Gods’ chosen people and we were to support them. Yes, there are nutjobs out there that call themselves Christians, but they are CINOs (Christian in Name Only).

Dave, I know the history between self-described Christians and Jews has been violent....I am speaking in the context of what I consider classical Christian doctrine.

I do hope you consider the number of people who denounced the crime versus the number who committed the deed. Even more important, I hope you consider the teaching of Christ and the apostles....none of them condoned violence or taught their followers to commit violence against others. The fact their words have been ignored by purported followers does not detract from the truth of their teachings.

Of course, like Israel, we do believe there ARE reasons for a “just war”....but as you know that is a far cry from violating a place of worship. We also believe there is a call to “ make disciples”—but that does NOT involve coercion or force.

Islam, as we all can acknowledge, is very, very different.
