Tax collection is not the most pressing issue. Tax SPENDING is the major problem and it needs to be curtailed drasticly.

One of my complaints on the presentation of the FairTax is that there are a number of people who claim that it will restrict government spending. This is not true. As long as Congress can barrow money without restrictions, NO tax collection system will restrain spending.

I concur; SPENDING is the problem.

The manner in which the funds the government spends are raised is the issue, and underlying that is the real issue: FREEDOM!

The American people used to be FRee to work, earn, save and invest without the heavy hand of government being involved.

The 16th Amendment, “passed” in 1913, fundamentally altered the relationship of the American people to their government. Prior to the 16th, the people were the master and the government was the slave.

Ever since 1913, the government has been the master and we are slaves!

The FairTax reverses 100 years of slavery!

That single reason should be enough for even the most callous of Americans to support FairTax.

Imagine April 15th becoming just another nice Spring Day!

Imagine NEVER having to share with a perfect stranger (the IRS) your most sacred and secret financial matters!

IMAGINE!

FREE! FREE! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY I AM FREE AT LAST!

Imagine the IRS requiring retailers to collect SSN at time of purchase or void the purchase, thereby tracking every single purchase regardless of the method of payment.

Do not fall into the trap that the FairTax will solve all problems. It comes with dangers of it’s own.

Don’t get me wrong. I like the fair tax and think it would work great for people that pay taxes. It would be the system I would like for our side once the nation divides into a Conservative Republic and Socialist Republic.

But as of now, its got no chance. Not because its not a great system or because intelligent, hardworking taxpayers wont support it. But because welfare leeches wont support it. Low information voters wont support it. Minorities by in large wont support it. The tax the rich crowd wont support it. In short, in order to support the fair tax you have to A) pay taxes and B) be smart enough to understand the fair tax, and I’m just not convinced a majority of Americans anymore fit into either of those categories.

As long as we let people who dont pay taxes and have the intelligence of Michael Brown protesters vote, I just dont see this getting any better. Only when and if we establish some type of new Republic that is made of of a majority of people who do not and are not sympathetic to people who feel entitled to vote themselves a living from the Government trough will good ideas like the fair tax really have a prayer.

Slaves of socialists/totalitarians. ID them. DEPOPULATE them from the body politic. DEFUND/DISMANTLE their collectives/programs, foreign and domestic.

Socialism Is Legal Plunder - Bastiat

ID them. Bastiat did in his day.

The root cause of all problems is the criminal/socialist/totalitarian.

Witness history. Witness current events.

ID them.

A most excellent observation!

Our challenge is that we MUST CONVINCE the low information voters that the FairTax is the ONLY way they will ever be able to enjoy the promises of America!

So far, we FairTaxers get an “F” in that department, and we must find a way to move that to an “A.”

Well, let us agree to disagree without being disagreeable.

FairTax is the solution.

All other tax plans are less than a solution.

The IRS is ABOLISHED when the FairTax is enacted, DUMBASS!

Read the legislation!

After FairTax is in place, THERE WILL BE NO IRS!

I have read the legislation.

However, I don’t need to read the legislation to know the intent of power systems. The IRS already collects too much data. But right now that data is limited to income. If you give the IRS control to collect taxes on spending, there WILL BE either a regulation or law that says the details have to be provided to the IRS. That is the unintended consequences of the FairTax.

They'll call it something else. So what?

I have been going around the block with you and your shrieking pals from the days of the ChiefNegotiator. Never once did you or he ever come up with a satisfactory answer. So you scream epithets. I don't care.

The government WILL find a way to collect its sales tax from the black market resulting from an NRST. It will be the most invasive agency ever contemplated.

You are either a total fool or a very dangerous shill.

Let's not stifle debate here. Although I am in favor of a national value-added sales tax, I have to disagree with the “FairTax” plan for the following reasons. One, a sales tax of 23% is ridiculous, it needs to be a low number (less than 10 percent). Two, the monthly “prebate” plan amounts to nothing more than welfare. We should be trying to change the tax system in order to ENCOURAGE work, instead a prebate will have the opposite effect. Plus, the prebate requires giving government your personal information, and leaves plenty of room for scams. Third, it is evident that the Government needs less money to work with, not more. If the intent of the FairTax is to keep government revenue at the same level, then why would Washington stop its multi-decade spending spree?

How about a system built for people that earn a living? A low-rate sales tax (for example, one percent) on all goods and services, perhaps barring a select few items and services. NO prebates going to deadbeats, and the government wont have any reason to continue snooping in on your life.

If you had read the legislation, you would know that the IRS is ABOLISHED!

State sales tax agencies will collect the FairTax. Your unfounded speculations are just that: UNFOUNDED!

Go back and re-read the legislation.

So, how do we get to where we want to go, repeal of the 16th Amendment and implementation of the FairTax?

Allow me to provide a bit of education. When the income tax was introduced, less than 1% of the population was impacted by that tax. Since then it has grown to impact just about every US Citizen, business, government policy and the Federal government interaction with the states.

A system of power grows itself. It always has, it always will. Into that axiom you want to move the government out of knowing how much is made, into knowing how much is spent by giving the government taxing authority over spending. Seems like that is a very dangerous road.

You say the IRS is abolished .... so what? The collection of taxes will still happen. Even if it is the Treasury dept that collects it from the states. So instead of the IRS telling the state .... you end up with the Treasury telling the states. Left side or right side, it is still the same coin.

You say that my concerns are unfounded. That is not true. They are founded on the history of power systems (governments) working to ever increase their control. They are founded on the knowledge that “progressives” are never happy with just a little bit of power.

You have obviously drunk the FairTax koolaid without applying the critical thinking skills needed to see where this path can lead.
