9/8/2004, just over 10 years ago, FR hit the big time by knocking down Dan Rather.
Have we forgotten?
OK, so where’s that graphic toggling back-and-forth between the Rather “document” and the MS word version slapped together by some Freeper in just a few minutes - in almost perfect superposition?
Many thanks (my favorite memory of that night).
So what the hell can possibly be in the upcoming movie about this?
What did Mary Mapes write about the whole thing?

Howlin, every single one of these memos to file is in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman.
In 1972 people used typewriters for this sort of thing, and typewriters used monospaced fonts.
The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software, and personal computers. They were not widespread until the mid to late 90's. Before then, you needed typesetting equipment, and that wasn't used for personal memos to file. Even the Wang systems that were dominant in the mid 80's used monospaced fonts.
I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.
This should be pursued aggressively.

Start around the first week in September 2004 with a Rather search and there are hundreds of articles regarding RatherGate.
I was there - had just refreshed the thread and saw Buckhead’s post. Will never forget it!
Strange that you should mention that. About 30 of us Freepers (including me) got together via the internet and produced a very detailed report that was sent to CBS and elsewhere conclusively outlining the fakery.
I ran across my copy of that “Freeper Report” a few weeks ago, and after reading this I re-parked a copy on the web if any of you are interested in rereading our earlier handiwork. I still think it was quite impressive.
You can find it at: http://www.mediafire.com/view/bftenr5wtqq7y21/CBS_Bush_Forgery.pdf At this site, you can either read it online or download a copy of it as a pdf.
Regards to all —and a heartfelt “Hello” to all of those still around who worked together on that effort—,
Dick
Hey, remember typewriters?
ROFLMAO! Laugh of the week, possibly the month. Thanks 1 rudeboy. Very funny.
And a classic (one of the greatest posts ever on FR). I never get tired of seeing your post (#27) IncPen.
Which resulted in the most accurate describtion of the Lamestream media’s news product:
“Fake but Accurate”
Brings back memories - the trick is to find new ways/opportunities to make an impact.
