Town officials in Ferguson, Mo., have moved to create a civilian group to monitor cops there, who have come under fire since the killing of a black teenager on Aug. 9.
The Ferguson City Council on Monday said the proposed Citizen Review Board would be made up of locals not connected to the police or government, and would work with city officials to oversee and improve the much-maligned department, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
We need a board to oversee the DOJ
To be truthful, this is a good idea. Cops overseeing cops has always stuck in my craw as being a little too chummy.
Inmates running the asylum
Maybe it’s just my hick little southern town, but here that’s one of the mayor/city council responsibilities, and they are already civilian. This is just a ruse to take the heat off the Furgeson “hizzoner”.
I imagine right about now St Louis PD and surrounding cities are getting flooded with job applications.
Yeah, cause everyone knows fans of Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson are just what law enforcement needs to be effective.
Might just as well give Obama the keys to the station while they’re at it.
I still stand by my statement. It is still a good idea to have someone independent of the police force to investigate them.
Watts on steroids.
What those usually wind up doing is placing politics into the process. You invariably wind up with minority activists in leading roles. If not you wind up with Liberals in those roles. Lets face it, why is that board being pushed now? Do you think the minority community in Ferguson will be happy until they have an Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson approved community based review board?
You wind up with a person who is a proponent of gun control. You wind up with a person who has never had to put their life on the line. You wind up with a person that is anti-police and pro criminal element. You wind up with a person who will think Brown was innocent, and the police officer was the real criminal.
And then guess what you wind up with on the police force in short order. You wind up with lower standards, less background fails due to criminal record, and a substandard police force that is subject to being infiltrated by local gang elements.
Take a look at community review boards and how they work out in other cities.
Wait until it’s time to get a new police chief, and that review board won’t agree to anyone except a minority from a liberal run city far away.
Yep, those community based police review boards sound real good, until you actually have to observe what they get away with.
So your solution is to continue to let only the police investigate themselves?
Waste of time and effort.
So your solution is to turn review of the police over the Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson?
What they will get, is a police force which is OWNED by the gangs, with a "citizen review board" that does what the gangs tell them to.
I hear ya.
I know people mean well. I understand where they are coming from. It just seems to me there is a disconnect somewhere along the line.
They watch the Brown fiasco in Ferguson, how the community games the situation so the officer looks like the criminal and the guy that assaulted him is the victim.
They watch how the minority winds up directing how things will be run. And then they surmise that of course, a citizen review commission is the just what the doctor ordered.
For heaven’s sake, was nothing learned by the observation of what just took place?
The police are now the people under the gun AGAIN. The local community that produced Brown, why they’re such great examples of common decency that they blame the officers, and are now nearing a complete takeover of the police department.
And “Conservatives” at least some of them, are willing to buy into this crap sandwich. Simply amazing...
In some cases, the race baiters would be in charge, but not in most.
I appreciate the response. Take care...
