Thanks. So if the State of New Jersey thought it was no big deal, a misdemeanor, then why does the NFL think it is worthy of banning him. For life? Is there an”assault your fiancé” clause in his contract?

Or is this a political show trial to appease feminists?

It's all about PR.

The NFL hasn't banned him for life. They suspended him "indefinitely," which is not going to stay in place. There's no provision under the NFL-NFLPA collective bargaining agreement for an indefinite suspension, and this sort of thing wouldn't be permitted under the law in any case.

I suspect the NFL is preparing to work behind the scenes to pay Ray Rice a substantial settlement to just go away and never show his face anywhere near an NFL game in the future.
