It's battered wife syndrome. It's a vicious cycle that repeats over and over. People like these two always find each other and have long and very tumultuous relationships until the wife can't take anymore. Then she'll go out and find someone else who will treat her in the same abusive ways.
Now that he's gonna be broke soon with no marketable skills I'd say her departure will be sooner rather than later.
Women like her make it tough for other battered women. Going on camera and defending him means that some other poor battered woman will have a harder time being taken seriously.
