Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell told the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee that the federal government does not have the power to stop states from allowing people to use welfare benefits to buy marijuana.

In a letter addressed to Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., who asked Health and Human Services about the policy earlier this year, Burwell said the law simply excludes any mention of marijuana dispensaries in the list of places where people are prohibited from using welfare, formally known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF.

So is formaldehyde, which has similar long-term effects from inhaling, if I recall correctly...

Wow.

It’s really good to know we’re getting our $1,000,000,000,000 money’s worth from this bloated, useless HHS bureaucracy which should be slated to be liquidated sooner than later.

Legal pot is $27/gram here. They won’t be buying very much.

Probably because its limited to purchasing legal items. Pot is still illegal under federal law.

Ever notice how you are always hearing about social security going broke, but you never hear about welfare running out of money?

So instead of buying steak and lobster with it they can buy pot. Save their real money for those nice new wheels.

I read where the expected tax revenue was over 50% off because street weed still costs less than government weed so nobody is buying subsidized weed. Rush talked about that on Monday too.

No, it is OK to toke up weed on EBT because Big Grocery and Big 711 also take EBT which can increase their sales of “Munchies” food...

The only possible way to stop this madness is to dissolve the country and start over again.

The store near me advertises from about 13% THC to “near 40”. The latter is in the form of a concentrate and would be priced differently. They don’t show prices on their webpage but the $27/g keeps coming up in comments. Not sure if that includes all the state tax or not!

Some shops include tax etc in the price, others don’t. Cities and states usually get a 10-20% ‘fee’ either way..

It is true that street costs a LOT less, but, in WA State...

The reason that tax revenue is low is because the supply is extremely limited. Many stores have been open and closed on a haphazard basis as they run out of stock or new product is delivered. Later this month the supply situation should improve somewhat.

Look at the link I posted above with all the lines drawn through out-of-stock items.
