Greenhouse gas levels rising at fastest rate since 1984 (according to new WMO figures)

A surge in atmospheric CO2 saw levels of greenhouse gases reach record levels in 2013, according to new figures.

Concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere between 2012 and 2013 grew at their fastest rate since 1984.

The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) says that it highlights the need for a global climate treaty.

But the UK's energy secretary Ed Davey said that any such agreement might not contain legally binding emissions cuts, as has been previously envisaged.

The WMO's annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletin doesn't measure emissions from power station smokestacks but instead records how much of the warming gases remain in the atmosphere after the complex interactions that take place between the air, the land and the oceans.

About half of all emissions are taken up by the seas, trees and living things.

According to the bulletin, the globally averaged amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reached 396 parts per million (ppm) in 2013, an increase of almost 3ppm over the previous year.

"The Greenhouse Gas Bulletin shows that, far from falling, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere actually increased last year at the fastest rate for nearly 30 years," said Michel Jarraud, secretary general of the WMO.

Atmospheric CO2 is now at 142% of the levels in 1750, before the start of the industrial revolution.

1984?

Wasn’t that about the time that Al Gore invented the internet?

Nobody would even notice 1000 ppm. Well, maybe a lot more vegetation.

Well, I would like to see their ocean calculations. Lower ocean temps mean higher CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Could prove global cooling if you ask me.

And still no global warming. It seems that greenhouse gases have no effect on climate after all. Could all those promoters of phony science be wrong? Ask Galileo.

Credibility means nothing. Continuing the relentless push to impose a “Carbon Tax” by any means necessary is the one and only priority of the left from here on out.

If the left can impose Obamacare upon an ignorant populace, then a Carbon Tax, which is the ultimate goal of the left, is within easy reach and the ignorant masses will believe anything if they are constantly flooded with disinformation.

It WILL happen. Bank on it.

That Icelandic volcano is still rumbling. One went off in Papua New Guinea last month. Kyushu was in late August in Japan.
We’ve had a spike in volcanic activity. That’s certainly going to up CO2 levels.

I can appreciate the profound schadenfreude you would enjoy if this were to happen, but I beg you to consider that it would also impact we few conservatives in the D.C. area who find ourselves trapped behind enemy lines.

I don't believe a word of this. It is ALWAYS a crisis with these folks, but never the truth.

Aye, I know that, but if it was possible to stop this madness it would be worth it. However, DC being buried in 30 feet of snow, would just be more proof of global warming, so it would do no good at all.

How is it I’ve lived my whole life so far and have never heard of a “World Meteorological Organization”?

Rounded to the nearest one tenth of one percent it remains at ZERO.

Every time obama, reid, pelosi, sharpton, etc open their mouths, the levels of noxious gases rise.

Actually if one adjusts for inflation the levels in 2013 are in line with those spewed in 1984.

Where’s the beef?

Maybe, just maybe, the scientific consensus on the end-game effects of these particular gases is wrong. Maybe true and non-politically motivated, non-funding stream for grants motivated processing should be employed.

Time to throw out everything existing on the books and start over. Everything is contaminated.
