Ray Rice likely to keep $25 million

Football's Ray Rice will probably get to keep about $25 million that he's been paid, even after he was cut by the Baltimore Ravens in the wake of domestic abuse revelations

snip ... Rice signed a 5-year, $35 million deal in 2012, $15 million of which was a signing bonus. He got another $7 million bonus in 2013, and also collected $3 million in salary over the first two years of the contract.

But almost none of that $25 million can be clawed back by the Ravens or the NFL, according to Mike Ginnitti, managing editor of Spotrac, a Web site which tracks professional sports contracts.

Rice probably will lose the $9.5 million in salary that he would have received for this year through the end of 2016.

Not a Ray Rice fan in the least...but banned for life from the NFL is a pretty heavy penalty to pay...

I think it is a bad policy in the long term....

How many girl friends, baby momma, gold diggers will try to exhort money with a false claim...

A year suspension and lots of community work with battered women.... Would send a serious message....

Well he did it once. I wonder if she’ll look over her shoulder to see if he’d do it again - maybe if she starched his shorts one to many times. Happen to me, I’d be gone like yesterday.

She will divorce him, get half, the lawyers the other half.

Not if he has the marriage annulled first. Under Maryland law, a marriage entered into under coercion or duress can be a candidate for annulment. I just wonder if a marriage that happened under the cloud of indictment for domestic violence qualifies as "duress".

She got in his face, and he just flicked fist ... you could hardly see it, but she was out COLD for maybe 2 minutes, and probably groggy the rest of the night.

I’m assuming that the hotel guy that showed up at the floor stop was reacting to the surveillance in real time. I guess Ray knew he was in trouble at that point.

It’s amazing that there was all this legal shmegal waffling, but when they released that video, BAM, that was it.

Ray Rice is an animal. A bottom feeder. A bum in the truest Rocky sense of the word.

No matter what happens, nothing will ever change that.

Ray! you listening? Dumbass.

First thing I thought was that he’s already got most of the money. If he’s smart he’ll take the money and go to Chicago and invest it with the city administration and drug cartel in the drug traffic. It’s a growing business, he will have official sponsorship and can live it up rubbing shoulders with the politicians and social elite of Chicago.

Or, you could have bought the S&P 500 Index and lived comfortably...forever.

It pays a 2% dividend to begin with.

That’s $240,000 per year.

After taxes, even in New York City, your take home pay would be more than $11,000 per month.

And, historically, on average, the S&P 500 Index grows about 7% a year.

So you could sell a small amount of stock every few years, raise your take home pay to $20,000 per month, and grow your principal instead of squandering it.

She’s an idiot to have married him after that. But if they have a son I hope they name him Otis.

Goodell should go. Make room for Condi Rice, it is a perfect time for the NFL to make the move.

If you ever question why you spend a cent on these sports, attending, viewing, reading about, merchandise, you know how they afford the salaries for the thugs.

I decided a few years ago, that pro football simply sold a product I longer needed to consume. Basketball, likewise.

(I think the Atlanta owner who “outed” his email, essentially was stating it was not a good long term investment any more, either—and arranged a clever exit)
