The Baltimore Ravens have terminated the contract of running back Ray Rice, the team announced Monday, the same day a shocking video surfaced showing the NFL star punching his then-fiancee in February.

The news release from the NFL team was terse.

"The Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract of RB Ray Rice this afternoon," it read.

Rice had been suspended by the league for the first two games of the season, a controversial move that led to widespread criticism and to the league re-evaluating the punishment for domestic violence cases.

It is shocking, he is dragging around his unconscious fiance, like a sack of potatoes.

Too bad for him that she is black. If she were white, he could claim it is just a knockout game; no foul./s

That ship has sailed. No matter which side of the story you are on, Goodell has demonstrated that he follows the pattern of a certain sitting US president in allowing events to overwhelm him until he eventually issues some inconsequential statement or ineffectual dictate after the time for action is long past.

Like his political counterpart, Goodell luxuriates in anodyne causes largely removed from his actual duties: breast cancer, head injuries, kids’ exercise, etc.

Both are (or were) lawyers and both choose to substitute their own whim for the written law with the usual claim that what they are doing is ‘too important’ to be subject to statute.

Goodell needs to be axed to leave next. He tried to sweep this under the carpet.

The NFL is a business. Businesses don’t make money by firing their best employees.

I saw two dudes in church yesterday wearing NFL jerseys. One was Sean Taylor (Redskins) and one was Ray Lewis (Baltimore).

My thought exactly. I expect The Justice Bros (Revs Sharpton and Jackson) to be on this like white on rice (irony in that cliche on purpose).

So, Pete Rose banned from Baseball for gambling on his team.

Should Rice be banned from NFL for punching a woman - and on tape no less?

Hmmm.
