It’s a shame the founders couldn’t have made the Constitution a little longer to define terms (such as “natural born citizen”) and to clarify portions that can be misinterpreted (such as the commerce clause) in favor of totalitarians. But even Franklin probably never envisioned the totalitarian attack on the document.

"Brutus", "Cato", "Centinel", and "the Federal Farmer" envisioned the misuse along with the power grab by the 3 Branches.
Franklin saw many errors in the Constitution (Read his speeches in 1787 at the Convention), especially concerning the Executive Branch but his fall-back position, as well as the rest of the Founders who voted for ratification, was trusting the public-good/citizens to prevent such imperfections in the Constitution.
