Baloney? Most people know that the 17th ripped the states out of the equation. Senate seats are now sold to well financed campaigns.
This anti-17th malarkey has been pushed on here ad infinitum and debunked every time. The Senate ceased to be the body the Founding Fathers wished it to be very early in the 19th century. It was a corrupted institution well before the public demanded the choice to elect Senators be given to the people over corrupt legislatures.
