Catholic League President: I May Not March in St. Patrick's Parade

Extreme political, cultural and economic forces are colluding to secularize the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City, argues William A. Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.

"If it gets to the point where the Catholic element is completely diluted, then I will no longer march in the parade," Donohue told Aleteia two days after the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee agreed to allow a group of gay NBC Universal employees to march under its own banner in the 2015 parade.

In a written statement provided to the Associated Press, the parade committee said its "change of tone and expanded inclusiveness" was intended as a "gesture of goodwill" to the homosexual community and an effort to keep the parade "above politics."

The committee did not respond to Aleteia's requests seeking comment. Despite the committee's stated intent to keep politics out of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, the revised policy prompted intense controversy as both homosexual rights groups and Catholic commentators blasted the decision in recent days.

Disgusting. Go ahead and change the name of the parade. Get this Catholic saint's name off this annual celebration of perversion, because it will only get worse. If not this year, next year the fags will be marching naked through the streets of NY City, simulating having each with each other. Dolan will wave to them and say "Bravo, bless their hearts"!!

Ech. I used to like Bill Donohue’s comments and such; but this is awful. “*IF* it gets to the point where the Catholic element is completely diluted[...]”...?? Exactly how low are you setting the bar, Bill? Having a Catholic Cardinal Archbishop smilingly and winsomely presiding over a parade which showcases “gay pride” groups is really a sign to clear-thinking people that “the Catholic element” (which used to be called “prevention of scandal”, back in teh pre-muddleheaded days) has left the stadium quite some time ago.

How in the world would this not be politics for the homosexual community to march under their own banner, instead of as part of the St. Patrick’s Day community? They want to define themselves as homosexual first.

I grew up in NYC and finally got smart and moved out two years ago, best thing I ever did. That city is completely overrun now by the self-serving Godless fascists. They’ll kiss the butt of every radical muzzie in existence but when it comes to Christians then it’s oppression time. Every Sunday I use to see anti-Christian protestors standing by churches using this excuse of “separation of church and state” but of course none of them protest nears mosques do they.

The Catholic element was diluted long ago, but now the Church is being expected to approve things that are open affronts to Catholic teaching. And with Dolan in charge, the Church will appear to do so. Although we must remember that the Church is not one dysfunctional politicized archbishop - of which it has had many - but the sensus fidelium, that is the accumulated teachings of Catholic Tradition that are and always have been accepted by the faithful, regardless of their state (so that includes us laypeople).

No Catholic group (which includes school marching bands) nor individual Catholic leader, lay or clerical, should participate in this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade in NYC. Let Dolan be out there all by himself.

Catholics who follow the Church’s teachings should not march in or attend the parade.

Why does Dolan endorse homosexual behavior? Is he weak, or is he opposed to the Church, or is he a supporter of the homosexual agenda?

"I May Not March in St. Patrick's Parade"

I'm certainly disgusted by Donohue's comment. I expected an emphatic "NO", not a maybe.

Archbishop Dolan should withdraw, also.

As the noted tenor, Nelson Eddy, sang...."Give me some men who are stout hearted men...."

As a catholic, I am absolutely confused and frustrated with his stance too. I don’t understand why he is okay with this. The whole thing is disgusting! There should NEVER be a problem with pro life banners in the first place. It is completely in line with catholic teaching and that of Saint Patrick. Why is there a moral equivalence between the two? All he wanted was the ability of anyone to march with banners???
