Putin's Nuclear Option
Foreign Policy ^ | Sept 4, 2014 | Jeffrey Taylor

Would Putin commit suicide by letting his missiles fly against the United States? No. Rather, he would respond with a limited nuclear strike against a couple of European capitals -- not London or Paris, but smaller ones, presumably in Eastern European countries that have only recently joined NATO. Warsaw, against which Russia has already conducted a drill simulating a Russian nuclear attack, first comes to mind. Or, say, Vilnius, Lithuania's capital. The point is, Putin would bet on decision-makers in Washington, Berlin, London, and Paris not retaliating with nuclear weapons against Russia if it had "only" hit a city or two most Westerners have barely heard of -- and certainly do not want to die for.

The outcome of Putin's putative gambit is that NATO effectively capitulates. The alliance's credibility as guarantor of security for its member states would be utterly destroyed, as would U.S. hegemony, which largely rests on the threat of using force. Putin would then be free to do what he wanted in Ukraine and anywhere else he perceived Russia's interests to be threatened.

It is more likely that Putin, would OK the uses of tactical nuke against a Ukrainian troop concentration.

So have we upgraded our nuke launchers to 5¼” floppies instead of 8” ones?

There is a very common “prophecy” out there that says Russia invades Canada and the USA from a fog shrouded base near the Arctic. Who knows what Putin is up to?

Russians in general are WAY TOO RATIONAL to consider using tactical nukes in a regional European theater. I belive that the next nuke we see used in open hostilities will be chucked by a Middle Eastern crazy.

Several years ago I did a Google search on the topic of “ring gyros”. Several white papers were returned - all in Chinese. That’s all I need to know about today’s nuclear threat.

Also assume that Russia times the Arctic based attack to coincide with multiple mass explosions in USA cities organized by the Islamic State, using their cells who are already here. A scary scenario. But I’m sure the Bamster has a handle on it. Anybody want a free Obama-phone? How about another EBT card?

Under Obola, there’s nothing left to launch. And the cruise missile launch systems are end-of-lifed, too. 5-1/4 inch, 8 inch...doesn’t make any difference.

. Who knows what Putin is up to? from an earlier thread today...

this:

. Russian Navy sends flotilla to Arctic to start permanent service at military base RT ^ | 9-6-2014 | RT

Posted on 9/6/2014, 12:41:42 PM by tcrlaf

Six vessels fom the Russian North fleet have left their base in Severomorsk in the Barents Sea and set off for the New Siberian Islands, where a military base under reconstruction will start functioning later this year.

“The major goal of the latest expedition of the North fleet ships to the Arctic is to deliver personnel, equipment and property of the North fleet’s tactical group, which starting this year is going to fulfill military service at the New Siberian Islands on a permanent basis,” said the North fleet commander, admiral Vladimir Korolyov.

The six vessels currently on their way to the Arctic are submarine chaser “Admiral Levchenko”, two large landing ships – “St George” and “Kondopoga”, the tanker “Sergey Osipov”, rescue tug “Pamir” and the lifting-and-mooring vessel “Aleksandr Pushkin

and assisted by this:

Obama’s State Department is giving away seven strategic, resource-laden Alaskan islands to the Russians. Yes, to the Putin regime in the Kremlin.

The seven endangered islands in the Arctic Ocean and Bering Sea include one the size of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The Russians are also to get the tens of thousands of square miles of oil-rich seabeds surrounding the islands. The Department of Interior estimates billions of barrels of oil are at stake.

Bingo! Putin is not stupid. The use of nukes is suicidal for COUNTRIES that would use them. It will come by the insane muzzies.

I like the complex and long games. Nuke Mexico City and watch all hell break loose on the southern border.

Putin doesn’t have to launch a nuclear weapon. We’re already toast. China and Russia are poised to tag team us. All he has to do is give a nuclear weapon to the right people and that would start the whole thing off.

America needs to immediately depose Obama and select a leader for whom Putin would have NO DOUBT about his willingness and ability tom project American power and might .

The great power and might of the U.S. military was the only thing that kept the Soviet Union at bay for years . It should still be a factor today . But it all comes down to who we select as our leader . Never again should American voters be allowed to elect such an unqualified dipshit to the office of POTUS . Amend the Constitution : No person , having never served honorably int eh United States Armed Forces shall hold the office of President of the United States .
America needs to be led by warriors , not by lawyers and to hell with what the ‘progressive Leftist Liberal ‘ pukes say or think . To hell with what that vociferous entitlement minions say or think . None of them keep our country safe and great . None of them deter the likes of Russia or ISIS . They all need to be relegated to the back bench of our society .

Actually, that is my view. If a major power such as Russia or China were going to take us down, I have no doubt they would do exactly as you say, use arab proxies who would gladly martyr themselves in the process and gladly take the blame.

A nuke in half a dozen port cities simultaneously would take us off the world stage for a decade or two. We'd take our revenge against the obvious perps while the actual perps offered help and sympathy. Then we would withdraw our forces from abroad while our economy recovered over the next 25 years leaving the rest of the world to sort itself out without us.

The economic collapse here would be the perfect stage for radical parties, some of which would be directed from abroad. We would either see the rise of a good autocrat or a very bad one.

Before he uses a tactical nuke in combat, I would expect Putin to light off a Hydrogen Bomb in a relatively unpopulated area of Russia or international waters, to get our attention.

It could backfire on him though, as the world may then get a TASTE of what an EMP is, and what nukes are capable of. Might just wake us up a bit.
