Since he chose Israeli citizenship, I don’t see where this country has any obligation toward him. Leave it to the Israelis to react (or not) as they see fit.

Assuming that the savages knew the guy’s real name and had seen the video his mother released shortly before his death I doubt that they failed to figure out that he was Jewish.And I’ll wager that that fact didn’t help him when the savages were deciding what to do.
I'd be willing to bet that he retained his US citizenship (that is,he didn't renounce it) which makes him,in the eyes of the US government,just as entitled to diplomatic protection as any other citizen.
