David Pitts is chair of the Department of Public Administration & Policy. His research examines diversity issues in public management and policy, with particular interests in race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation in K-12 and postsecondary education.
Prof. Pitts' paper with Greg Lewis on LGBT employment patterns received the 2009 Bob Bailey Award for the best paper in LGBT politics from the American Political Science Association, and his dissertation on racial/ethnic diversity in public schools received the 2006 Leonard White Award for the best dissertation in the field of public administration. He sits on the editorial boards of the American Review of Public Administration, International Public Management Journal, Journal of Public Administration Research & Theory, Public Administration Review, Public Personnel Management, and Review of Public Personnel Administration.
