Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan will seek the extradition of his ally-turned-foe, U.S.-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen, when he meets U.S. President Barack Obama at the NATO summit on Friday, Turkish media reports said.
Erdogan, inaugurated last week, has vowed to press his battle with Gulen and his supporters whom he accuses of using influence within the judiciary, police and state bureaucracy to plot against him in his final year as prime minister.
On his plane traveling to Wales for the summit, Erdogan told reporters the "parallel structure", the expression he uses to describe Gulen supporters within the state apparatus, would be among subjects he would discuss with Obama there.
Gulen lives in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania. His followers revere him as an enlightened, pro-Western face of moderate Islam but secular critics say he infiltrated government ranks with religiously-minded professionals.

Obama's reaction?
The United States regularly ignores extradition requests from other countries. One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. By ignore, according to the Russians, we don’t even give them the courtesy of a response. Having said that, anybody who seeks shelter in the United States under Obama is taking his life and freedom in his hand. They would be much better off, and safer, if they carefully selected a different country unto President Politically Correct is out of office.
To be fair, MOM, bowing down, even grovelling before Turkish Mohammedan leaders has been a hallmark of American presidents since at least Nixon.
Good to see you Kolo.
Actually, this grovelling extended back as far as Eisenhower.
However, there is a fundamental difference between Sultan Erdogan and earlier leaders. The earlier ones were merely third world despots who wanted to extort as much as they could from Uncle Sugar (while keeping their population in check). This one sees himself as the next Sultan of the Ottoman Empire...and seeks to re-establish that empire (as a first step in a plan to unite all of Islam under one banner and one caliph)
bears repeating ;)
