I know people who could qualify for various benefits but they think it’s immoral to live off of others. There are still people like that. Imagine that.

Also, what the government does is not charity. Charity is voluntary. The government engages in legalized theft. When one person is forced to labor to support another, I would call that a form of slavery. That is what we have today.

So, you’re Irish? My husband is half Irish. Gives me a license to tell Irish jokes. ;-)

Yes, there are still some remnants of the disappearing WASP ethic that made this country great. I certainly don’t view government confiscation of wealth as charity; the Church opposes socialism as a form of theft of wages. Unfortunately, the WASP system only works when everyone (or almost everyone) is on the same page; the war on our culture since the 1960s has left us with masses of parasites only too happy to feed off the money taken from the takers...

I love Irish jokes (really, just about any ethnic jokes).
