My brother and my oldest son both worked at McDonalds as teenagers. It was never in any of their minds, my mind or anyone else I knew that this would be how they would make their life long livelihood. The problem of lack of opportunity is with all levels of government. They put so many burdens on business that the opportunities to get better paying work only exists at a minimal level compared to the past.

I read the story on AP about the guy who worked for McDonalds for 22 years and only makes 8.25 per hour. Minimum wage.

A couple of things struck me.

Wow, the AP found someone who actually works at McDonalds and not a hired good from SEIU.

Wow, some guy has literally worked his entire career, 22 years at McDonalds, and NEVER obtained any skills, never improved himself in any way, never made manager or assistant manager. But bitches because he can't support his family.

Something is seriously WRONG with the guy if this is true.

Just being a valued employee should have pushed him up the ladder over 22 years. An assistant manager makes 25-35k/yr, plus bonuses. A manager makes >55K/yr, plus bonuses.

Many pull in 6 figures.

Just think of how well this dude could be "supporting a family" had he put in anything but the bare minimum effort.

Both our sons worked at fast food restaurants when they were in high school. Again, like your family, no intent to make it as a career but they learned to meet the public and now both of them thrive with that skill.
