A report released Wednesday by researchers at USC found that immigrants who are in California illegally make up nearly 10% of the state's workforce and contribute $130 billion annually to its gross domestic product.
The study, which was conducted in conjunction with the California Immigrant Policy Center, was based on census data and other statistics, including data from the Department of Labor and the Department of Homeland Security. It looked at a variety of ways the estimated 2.6 million immigrants living in California without permission participate in state life.
FOR THE RECORD Sept. 3, 4:20 p.m.: An earlier version of this post said Reshma Shamasunder, director of the California Immigrant Policy Center, called for an immigration overhaul bill that laid out a path to citizenship for immigrants. She called for President Obama to take executive actions to limit deportations.

That is about 6-8 representatives that California should not have.
Didn't think so.
Nothing but propaganda.
We have near 10% unemployment...
Deport illegal workers and gee a LOT of jobs open up....
Thank the vast welfare and nanny state, which only exists because of massive government debt and massive Fed money-printing.
According to this LA Slimes article the cost of illegal immigrants to the California economy and the California taxpayers is exactly zero. They do not cost us one dime for education, welfare, and prisons.
California is in the hole for 26 billion a year to support the illegals yes we are the other Mexico now.
When the mexicans chase all the blacks, hispanics and Asians out, what kind of a cesspool will be left?
And nearly 30% of the population
That make the illegal non-worker to worker ratio about 3 : 1
We are just f*#%@d
one in 10 is very much an underestimate of the percentage of illegals in California
But they’re Dreamers - wanting to take over the Dream that Americans built over the past several hundred years ....
Nevada 7.2% of Population and 10% of workforce
CA 6.8% of population and 9.7% of workforce
TX 6.7% of population and 9% of workforce
and what percent of the non-workforce? 30%?
I told a friend this recently. We have a pretty good sized mall that she goes to all the time. I said just think that every tenth person you pass in the mall is an illegal alien.
That’s how many we have.
At best the number of illegals anywhere in the country is an estimate.
Which in your mind allows you to pull some number like 30% out of the air.
In reality there are very credible sources that policy makers, judges, and congressmen turn to, such as Pew Hispanic that I used.
You don't have to be a wizard, you have the internet and can find many photos and videos of illegals riding on top of the train, crossing the river, and climbing the fence.
Most of them are men which tells most people that there will be a higher percentage of illegals in the workforce than there is in the general population.
LOS ANGELES COUNTYThe Department of Public Social Services issued nearly $639 million in welfare and food stamp benefits to illegal immigrant parents for their native-born children in 2013 and $304 million so far in the first six months of 2014, according to an announcement by Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
The more than $300 million spent this year consisted of nearly $112 million in CalWORKs (welfare) and $192 million in CalFresh (food stamps). See graph below.
At this pace, the total cost for the year will again exceed $600 million, Antonovich stated.
He noted that more than 20% of the Countys public welfare funds are spent on illegal immigrants; plus, taxpayers spend more than $550 million on public safety, $500 million on healthcare, and hundreds of millions on education to support illegal immigrants in Los Angeles County.
Illegal immigration continues to cost County taxpayers nearly $2 billion dollars a year and siphons resources away from vital municipal services for legal immigrants and county residents, said Antonovich.
The county supervisor also criticized Gov. Jerry Brown for fast-tracking $3 million to provide legal representation to unaccompanied minors who illegally cross the border.
Any and all costs associated with Illegal immigration are a federal responsibility, said Antonovich. The state has already failed to reimburse local jurisdictions for unfunded mandates. The legislature should be pressing our federal representatives to reimburse for all costs associated with their failed immigration laws. This reckless policy is a flagrant abuse of state funds especially when you consider the unmet needs of our own foster children and emancipated youth.
