Gazprom-controlled bank hires former senators Lott, Breaux as lobbyists

bank affiliated with Russian energy giant Gazprom has hired former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott and former Sen. John Breaux to lobby against U.S. sanctions.

According to a lobbying disclosure Friday, Lott and Breaux will focus on “banking laws and regulations including applicable sanctions” on behalf of Gazprombank.

Gazprombank was founded by Gazprom and is one of the targets of U.S. sanctions on Russian companies.

Gazprom controls the flow of much of Europe’s natural gas. It has been at the center of growing international discussions about diversifying Europe’s energy supply to minimize reliance on Russian gas in light of Moscow-backed separatists’ military actions in Ukraine and Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

As of the end of 2013, Gazprom owned 35.54 percent of shares in Gazprombank. Gazprom also funds much of its activities, according to Gazprombank’s financial statements.

The lobbying disclosures were reported earlier today by The Center for Public Integrity.

For a long time, I thought John Breaux was one of the good guys. I think at this point with former politician’s it is not that they won’t do it, it’s all about the price. Lobbying for the Ruskies or K-Street or the Ruskies on K-Street is still the million dollar question for me and that is... Why haven’t the various Tea Parties shine their antiseptic light on K-Street the and Kulture of Korpution it is...

Now Lott can openly endorse Mary Landrieu, as he did covertly in 1996.

People in LA will forever consider Breaux the “good guy”. Don’t bother trying to change their little minds.
