Cost of educating new class of illegal immigrant minors estimated at over $760M

A new report puts the price of educating the thousands of illegal immigrant children who recently crossed into the U.S. at a whopping $761 million this school year -- as some school systems push for the feds to pick up the tab.

The estimate comes from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which issued a report on the 37,000 “unaccompanied minors” – who mainly are from Central America – after analyzing data from the Department of Health and Human Services and education funding formulas in all 50 states.

The numbers underscore the concerns critics have raised for months about the burden the surge is putting on local school systems and governments.

“We’re not doing American students any favors by dumping in tens of thousands of additional illegal alien children,” FAIR’s Bob Dane told Fox News.

The report breaks down the costs by state. The biggest impact reportedly will be seen in California, Texas, Florida and New York. The Empire State leads the list with a bill of more than $147 million.

Immigrant rights groups, though, say it’s a small price to pay for helping kids in need.

“We’re one of the wealthiest countries in the world,” said Jorge Baron, of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. “We should be able to handle this if we focus our energy and some resources and we make sure that kids are treated well, and treated the way we, in America, believe kids should be treated.”

What bothers me most about this is public education, which is nothing more than indoctrination into leftist thinking. That’s what got us a butt load of uncritical thinkers who elect people like Zero into office.

Well, they have no need to learn to speak English, so what are they learning? How to vote Democrat?

Hey, what’s another $760 million if it means a bunch of muddle-headed liberals and low information voters can feel good about themselves because it shows our nation is “compassionate”? Besides, the “rich” will pay for it all.

“We’re one of the wealthiest countries in the world,” said Jorge Baron

And why is that Jorge? It is called the rule of law, amigo.

And why are the Central American countries so poor? Let's start with...the lack of rule of law.

Feed the little darlings a nice meal and deport them, promptly.

“Educating”? Let’s call it “detaining in schools.”

Yea,sure. People working hard and struggling to raise their own kids should cut back so they can educate kids that don’t belong here.

Makes perfect sense./s

We have a heck of a time educating comfortably-well-off, English-speaking students in the suburbs. I know: I try to teach them Sunday School, and half of them can’t read when they’re in junior high.

Here’s a rasis idea..

why don’t we require documentation for illegal alien “children” registering in our American schools..

each one of them have records of some kind somewhere..

1. their births were registered in their country
2. they went to school in their own countries,
3. they were baptized in the Catholic church back there
4. they have shot records in their own countries
5. etc

If Obama won’t deport them, send the all to sanctuary cities.

Do you one better. One pays for the education of their own brood, like any other service. No kids = no property taxes; $$ follows the kid(s) = competition = better education = parent involvement (especially when writing the check)

That solves ALL sorts of ‘problems’

This really is no big deal, The USSC gave the Governors the necessary tools to take care of this problem some 10 or so years ago, it is called the “Kelo” Decision, which gave STATES the ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO SEIZE PROPERTY FOR ECONOMIC GAIN, We just need a few Governors willing to use it, by seizing FEDERAL PROPERTY and the Asset’s of FEDERAL EMPLOYEES to pay for this.

It would do my heart good to see some Governors do that very thing but am not going to hold my breath.
