CDC Director: Ebola in Africa now an ‘epidemic,’ ‘completely out of control’

Centers for Disease Control Director Tom Friedman did not return from his visit to West Africa, where the worst outbreak of Ebola in history has spread to five countries and killed at least 1,500 people, with any good news.

Friedman told CNN hosts on Tuesday that the Ebola outbreak in Africa is currently “completely out of control” and is now an “epidemic.” The CDC director added that “it will get worse in the future and our window of opportunity to turn it around is closing.”

The local cops will get to use all their military toys, methinks.

If such disease did break out in America do you think people here would be smart enough to quarantine themselves?

************************************

Only the “preppers” ..... (only half joking here). Seriously, think about the populations that gets called the “ferals” these days .... think they’d quarantine themselves or even obey a Fed quarantine? I don’t think so - in some areas, it would be a situation like in Africa.

I’m thinking the same thing.

I have already started to prepare for a self imposed quarantine. I am a senior and am well aware that it wouldn’t be cost effective for the government to treat me if I became infected so if there is an outbreak in the US I plan to “shelter in place”

What could go wrong ? When the UN and US governments are all built on a mountain of lies, everything can go wrong. They lack the ability to stop anything. Ignorance is not bliss. It is death.

Couldn’t see that one coming.

But, really now. Isn’t this guy just being *hysterical*?

That’s just not going to help the situation now, is it? We all just need to calm down and get back into our normalacy bias.

Meanwhile, time to continue preps.....

It already is.

I’ll be it’s just a matter of time before it hits some major population center outside of Africa.

Then they’ll just say that it’s too late to stop air travel so continue on with it anyway.

Writing in The Wall Street Journal opinion pages, former Food and Drug Administration Deputy Commissioner Scott Gottlieb and former Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Tevi Troy do not expect the U.S. to escape the consequences of globalization that easily. “Given international travel, we will certainly see cases diagnosed here, and perhaps even experience some isolated clusters of disease,” they write, though noting that a West Africa-style outbreak is highly unlikely in the industrialized world.

The problem that is going to make containing Ebola in the US isn't technology or superior hygiene or medical capabilities, but rather the selfish, entitlement, *I have my rights and can do what I want when I want, where I want and nobody is going to stop me or has the right to stop me* mentality.

And so they will go about spreading the disease while they're sick until they are too debilitated to do so.

I just wonder if I should panic, or if panic is what the left wants so that Obamugabe can declare martial law.

Only the ones who have prepped up for a grid down type situation. We could quarantine for a long time in our house. You would have to let the mail pile up too.

During the Swine Flu epidemic, I didn't have Swine Flu. I had symptoms of it. I was put in forced quarantine, and couldn't get out until the hospital said I could. And that was a few days after they knew it wasn't swine flu.

The gov already has the authority to force people into quarantine.

Tom Friedman’s salary is paid by American citizens - NOT citizens ‘of the world’. Friedman’s first duty is to safeguard Americans. He’s failing.

Not after watching the festivities in Ferguson.

You're right. CDC liberal elite 'citizens of the world' appear to care more about Africa than about citizens of the United States. Flights in and out of Ebola zones need to be stopped now.

I really don't understand why they keep saying that. I would bet that in any major city living conditions are perfect to spread this disease.

I agree with you. On this thread, I just shared that I got caught in a Swine Flu quarantine, even though I didn’t have swine flu. They totally control medical choices and environment, and this particular hospital milked the insurance company for every penny they could. They decide who lives and who dies by deciding who gets what treatment. The person has no say; quarantine is not a choice. Us little folk would be out of luck. If there isn’t enough care to go around, seniors will be a statistic, better off at home taking care of ourselves.

My planning strategy is the same as yours. If the epidemic hit, it’s entirely possible that staying homebound while it works through the population is the safest way to go. Avoid the germs. The other thing I’d avoid is any vaccine they come up with for it. If it’s quickly brought out, it’s a public health decision that it will kill less people than the disease will and will help stop its spread.

Is this approach a threat to anyone? No, everyone’s probably better off if a substantial number of people stay home, thus cutting down on crowds.

Stay healthy...”grania”

Frieden is a health Nazi if there ever was one. Don’t forget he was Bloombergs health enforcer. But in this case, it may be appropriate to a certain degree.

I am most worried about men continuing to have sex after they are recovered from ebola, during the very long amount of time it remains in sperm. The education required is one problem, and the powerful sex drive of men is another. Add denial to that: “It’s probably OK by this time, even though I’ve been told to wait longer.”

Couple of groups I think are going to be problematic:

illegals .... they will want to avoid ‘authority’ and will hide their sick and dead (IMO). This is like many of the Africans do and it will definitely spread Ebola

‘ferals’ .... low infos. The type of people who will not listen to reason or facts & will take every opportunity and excuse to loot, rob, run amuck. I could see blocks of cities in quarantine and then all heck will really break loose when food becomes scarce or they feel ‘trapped’. Rev Al & Rev Jesse will claim it’s “racist” and white America is trying to kill blacks. Political correctness and a death toll as a result will ensue.

Libs/progs, etc. .... similar to gun control, law abiding citizens obey and the criminals end up with illegal guns anyway. There will be “overreach” and middle class, law abiding Americans will suffer. As is happening in Africa, the very rich leave the country or have the means to get away from the epidemic. The very poor and low info violate quarantine, run from authorities, and spread Ebola anyway. The law abiding will follow the rules and have their freedoms and liberties taken away and I’m not sure to what extent we’ll get them back. How much do you trust CDC (who IMO has already screwed this up saying we have nothing to worry about), DHS, TSA, all the other militarized gov’t agencies, militarized police ... and a treasonous you-know-what in the WH who is looking for any excuse to declare himself Emperor and do away with our Constitutional system of government.

I don’t trust a single politician.

And I agree with your scenarios about the inner cities and the accusations of *racism* for something they brought on themselves.
