London could be the scene of a Mumbai-style terrorist "spectacular" if Islamist jihadists get their way, British security chiefs have warned. There is growing concern that a list of "soft" targets is being drawn up, and that weapons and explosives have already been smuggled into the country.
The Sun is reporting that the SAS has moved part of its anti-terror team to a forward base near London, amid concerns that a prolonged attack may be staged in that city. MI5 also referred to the Mumbai atrocity of 2008 as a comparison, in which coordinated bombings and shootings took place over four consecutive days, killing 174 and wounding a further 300.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: "The nightmare scenario is they mount a spectacular attack at a high profile location. They may try to storm a building, take hostages, rig it with explosives or kill at will."
The threat has caused the official 'threat level' to be raised to severe, increasing tensions in the city and prompting people to share warnings of an imminent bomb attack on the London Underground on social media and via text last night. The threat was dismissed as a hoax after the head of the British Transport Police took to Twitter, posting: "Social media contains lots of rumours regarding threats to tube network tomorrow. There is no specific threat so keep calm & carry on."
However, Twitter user David O'Neill pointed out: "Must say though. If you raise the threat level to severe you can't be shocked when people believe stupid rumours about attacks on the tube."

That happened two years ago, an event apparently so rare as to be noteworthy and remembered by you. I daresay that multiple burglars are being legally shot every night in the USA. Our urban crime rate is nothing to be proud of, but at least we are able respond to it in an unremarkable way. It takes an incredibly stupid or desperate person to burglarize a house in Texas. They would be bolder yet if we did not have guns and the legal right to use them.

The only guns allowed in the UK are under very strict circumstances, such as only 3 rounds allowed, 22 caliber rifles only, single-shot only, permit required and good luck getting one of those, etc.
More guns are illegal in the UK than are legal, so don’t try that BS propaganda, we Americans are not that gullible.

I am a gun owner and I don’t know where you get your facts. Rifles and shotguns are legal. And you can buy as many as you wish as long as you have the requisite licence.

They are an insult to not only Britain, but the countries who fought with Britain: Canada, India, Australia, NZ, S Africa, the black colonies in Africa and the Caribbean, the British colonies in Asia. ALL these nations helped Britain, they fought in their millions and many died.
If anyone saved Britain (over and above ourselves), it was NOT just America, but all those nations. America did not and could not have saved Britain alone. Not even close.
We needed, and got, the Empire.
And what about we, the British?. We fought from start to finish in not one but two world wars, basically bankrupting ourselves to do so twice. We stood ALONE against the evil of Nazism and Fascism. Our homes were bombed, our people murdered in their own homes and beds. Not once, but twice. Our nation starved not once but twice.
We lost over a MILLION MEN in both wars. With another 2.5 MILLION injured.
Where’s YOUR respect and thanks for what WE did?.

You claim to be a historian, yet, you don’t even know that the UK lost about 375,000 military, not a “MILLION MEN”. The total dead with civilian losses was about 450,000.

An utter lie. I have NEVER rewritten history on here to boost the UK or downplay the US. I never have and I never would, it would be a gross insult to the heroes of America 1917-18 and 1941-45. In fact, I spend my FR life dealing with the crap history that has Britain being saved by America.
It is NOT revisionist history to tell people like you, who clearly don’t know all of what the British and the British Empire did in WW1 and WW2, what the actual history is.
Nor is it Britcentric history OR anti-American (an utterly ludicrous accusation). Its telling the world what we British/Commonwealth/Empire did, and getting the men and heroes the rightful history and respect they deserve. If some of what I post is new to you, and contradicts what you thought you knew, so be it.
Also, I always talk about Canada, Australia, NZ, India, SA and all the Empire troops in WW2 as well. And I have talked at length about American units, battles, commanders, heroes.

The British people do not speak German first and foremost because of their own bravery, heroism and sacrifices. Helped by their allies. Of which America was one, and an important one, whom we thank for their help.
But WE are the reason first and foremost why we don’t speak German. The sacrifices of Britain in WW1 and WW2, esp in times like 1940 and 1941, are why we sit here talking as free men in English.
We lost 750000 in WW1 and 300000 in WW2, that’s over a million. I said ‘a million men in both wars’, I clearly meant combined.
Why would they sneak over the border when they can fly right into Chicago or New York?

The civilized world owns a debt to Great Britain that is very much like the debt owned to Rome. Without Rome and without Great Britain civilization as we know it would not exist. Rome civilized the ancient world, Great Britain civilized the modern world. Many seems to forget that, I don't.
