I’ve never worked for a company that did not pay me for anytime spent on the companies campus. I can not for the life of me understand why an hourly employee would tolerate working for any company for free.

Nah. I wasn’t hourly at the time and I was “privileged” enough and the company was generous enough to pay us straight time for most of the hours worked after the first 5 which were gimmes. When working 7days/wk 12-14-16 hours a day for months on end, I guess they figured we should get a little something. :>}

My Great Uncle worked worked for Ford during the $5 an hour days as a millwright in the ‘20s.

Did you mean to say $5 a day? $5 an hour in the '20s would have been a bonanza!
